The Big Fish Story:
My 14 year old son and I were on a Canadian fishing trip in Northwestern Ontario near the small town of Perrault Falls. It was June 2nd and the weather was beautiful that day, blue skies around 60 degrees. We were fishing the base of the falls for smallmouth but were not having near the luck we did the day before. My brother and nephew were fishing in a nearby boat and none of us were getting any bites that morning. I casted near a large rock adjacent to a weedbed and boom, the fish took off. I knew it was a large fish because it headed to deeper water immediately and I could not move the fish at all. I checked my drag to ensure it was set correctly since I had very light line on for something this big. All I could do was keep constant pressure on the line and keep the rod tip in the air. The fish made many runs and I thought it was going to strip all of my Trilene from the spinning reel. Finally the decision was made to pull anchor and chase after the fish. 45 minutes later, my brother was in the boat with me trying to attempt to get this monster in the boat. By this time, we had a large audience from the two camps nearby. My landing net was too small so we tried to manhandle the fish into the boat. That did not work so two fellow fisherman lended me a large landing net. We finally got the fish in the boat and both of us were exhausted. Our young boys were dancing up and down and helping take lots of pictures. After releasing the fish back to the water, several fishermen clapped with approval from the neighboring docks. What a wonderful experience that I would like to share with all.

You got to love the way those toothy critters fight. That is a great story and great fish. That was probably a female because males don't usually get that big. I gave you 5 and glad to see you let her go.. GREAT JOB AND CONGRATS.
