The Big Fish Story:
Well guys, I really don't know how to say this but, Here Goes!!!! On Feb 10, 2008 While fishing on the Cumberland river in an undisclosed location in Tennessee, the water was a balmy 37 degrees and Blues were our target fish. The weather was a pleasant 38* light winds out of the north and the barometric pressure was falling with clear skies. After catching a nice 39.5lb Blue, I got another hit on a custom rod made by Randy Harris of Black and Blue Custom Rods. I couldn't believe my eyes when this feller hit the surface cause these fish are rarely caught in waters less than 55*. But no one told this fish about how cold it was. Much to my surprise after a slugish and extensive wrestling match with this little guy. He weighed in at a measley 43.2lbs, LOL!!! We were using fresh cut skipjack (smaller chunks than usual) for bait and smaller hooks (7/0 kahles)!

Comment By:mikelap whats up dreadnaught,i will be doing alot of catfishin real soon,i have a question,is it legal to use goldfish in PA?no one can answer this for me,if you know let me know,i sent you 5,later bro................BAITFISH includes all forms of minnows; suckers, chubs, fallfish, lampreys, eels between 6 and 8 inches in length; gizzard shad 8 inches or less; and all forms of darters, killifishes and stonecats (except those listed as threatened or endangered species). Legally taken gamefish may be used as bait. It is unlawful to use or possess goldfish, comets, koi, and common carp as baitfish while fishing.
Comment By:Apollo 12
If it has scales, it is bait....maybe that is why Flatheads rule the rivers and Sharks rule the oceans....LOL....C&W

ydnewleilani I caught my biggest catfish because of the tips you told curtis about, thank you, smile and the world smiles back. This is the kind of things I like to here!!!! Winning this contest is not important as long as someone gains valuable knowledge !!! Glad I could help you along with it!!! Remember to release the larger ones after a pic or two, those are our Breeders CPR (C)atch (P)hotograph and (R)elease!!!!
Comment By:Dreadnaught

Here's five for your giant fish!
Comment By:Katsmeowx3
I don't want you to give up your secret location, but can you say what part of the state? My mother lived in Mountain City when she was a little girl. If we have a family reunion in 2009 and get to go, we might need to try fishin' down there! That is a giant fish! I think I might be scared if I caught something that big. I guess you get over it from the excitement of catching it. Is that the biggest one you have caught? Lewiswmx1 would have to help me reel that in for sure. Congrats and Happy Fishing!

Brother Fisherman Sitruc, The rod and reel that you have will do the job but, you will no doubt be in for a fight. Most bank fishermen and/Ladies like to try and cast out as far as they can. Well, I have fished both ways Boat/Bank and most all of the fish that I have caught are generally within 25ft to 50ft of the bank. I like to use what is naturally in the waters that I am fishing in for bait. That flathead in the pic was caught on Fresh cut skipjack on a 7/0 kahle hook using, 40lb Berkley Big Game Solar Green Mono. We had reduced our bait sizes down to 8ozs because of the cold water conditions. Hope this Helps!!!! I am always glad to help a fellow fisherman out with tactics if they ask!!!

Awesome catfish...5 bobbers hey check out my Bass thanks=]
Comment By:nellerefinnej
Cool!
Comment By:Dreadnaught
that's a really nice fish. how does that scale work. i think i am gonna try one. Those are the 220lb scales made by Coffy Marketing!!! They work great!!! Most other scale makers only build them up to 50 or 60lbs and, that just isn't big enough for the fish I am after!!
Comment By:Dreadnaught
Wow awesome job. Didja tell him the temp before you sent him on his way? LOL funny coloring. 5 bobbers Thank You!!! Ya, I tried to but I think he was deaf, LOL!!!!
